What a weekend! I attended this years DIY musicians conference held at Berklee College of Music campus at Palau de le Arts - Reina Sofia and it was wonderful.
Two days full of a wealth of knowledge, new informations and new ideas for how I can grow as an artist this year and how to implement some things that will help me to improve my skills & business. As much as being a singer songwriter & recording artist is my creative mission, it’s also how I want to support my life and this needs a certain level of organisation and at least a slightly serious mindset if you want to succeed.
I made great connections and heard some personal accounts of other artists journeys that I felt very in tune with. I think some collaborations or gig swaps could come from this event and that’s exciting.
I learnt about all kinds of interesting concepts in the world of music of todays modern world of digital sharing platforms and the move further away from physical forms. Although there it is a great feeling to be be able to purchase a cd or vinyl and have something physical in your hand to keep, the fact is that we are heading rapidly towards much more online consumption and this is something we as artists and creative people understand and recognise.
I was most intrigued to hear about the world of music in gaming, it was really inspiring to hear what is possible and how your music can be used in a new style of interactive games where the users their own build festivals or concerts. I also heard more about hologram shows some of worlds most renowned artists who have now transitioned are already making sell out tours! Kind of crazy to wrap your head around but people are keen to buy tickets to see their favourite artist as a holographic vision on stage. This opens up a whole new topic of discussions but any way you look at it, this is a way that a deceased artists family will continue earn money from their art, an interesting concept in any case.
There was a lot to learn and I am sure that it will take some time to settle in but there are some wonderful new ways to provide content and lots of new ideas have been sparked in my creative synapsis, so watch this space for what’s coming up in my world over the next few months.
